Affirmations for Fathers
In the SHM Community Forums, Jimmy shared a number of affirmations for fathers. He wrote:
- I will show rather than tell my children what to do.
- What I teach my children, I teach my children's children.
- Love you children for what they are, not what you expect them to be.
- I have trouble with this one, especially when I find myself correcting my children. Where to draw the line between socializing children and wanting them to shine so as to make them a narcissistic extension of me? Difficult calls. One minute at a time.
- It's what you leave in your children, not what you leave for them, that's important.
I plan to leave something for them, too, but I like to be reminded about the importance of valuing my children TODAY as opposed to the value of what I plan to leave for them in the future.
