Emily Carton, LISW
Emily Carton, LISW, has been a geriatric social worker for over twenty years. Currently she is with ElderOptions, a private care management organization that works with older people and their families in the Washington Metropolitan Area. ElderOptions also provides workshops and seminars to businesses and corporations to assist their employees in dealing with elder issues.
Ms. Carton is also a trained bibliotherapist and uses literature and poetry to work in mental health settings with people with mental illness, or those who wish to explore their concerns with poetry and literature as the vehicle. Her work has been published in the Washington Post, The Journal for Poetry Therapy, and in other professional journals.
The concerns of aging affect people throughout their lives. It is the goal of her work to bring creative solutions to difficult situations and to bring the issues that everyone must face into an open and creative dialogue. It was through a profound respect for people and their life stories that propelled her into this profession and it's the remarkable strength and wisdom of "life's survivor's," that has kept her involved in the geriatric profession.
